In January 2026, we began an exciting journey to review our school's vision and values to ensure they truly reflected our community and aspirations for the future. We wanted our vision and values to be shaped by the people who know and love our school best, so we sought the views of children, parents, staff and governors through surveys, pupil voice, assemblies and INSET days.
Following this consultation, it was unanimously agreed that our vision of Giving Every Child the Chance to Shine should remain at the heart of our school. This vision captures everything we strive to achieve at Steeple Claydon School and Preschool. It reflects our commitment to ensuring every child feels valued, supported and empowered to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
Alongside our vision, we reviewed our previous set of seven school values. Through discussions and feedback, it became clear that while our community's priorities had evolved, one value remained as important as ever: Respect. Respect was retained and, alongside two new values, forms the foundation of who we are as a school community today.
Respect was one of our original school values and remains central to life at Steeple Claydon. We believe that everyone should be treated as they would wish to be treated themselves.
Respect forms the foundation of positive relationships, helping children and adults to feel safe, valued and heard. We encourage respect for ourselves, for others, for our learning and for the wider world around us. By showing respect in our words and actions, we create a caring and inclusive community where everyone can thrive.
In an ever-changing world, resilience is increasingly important. We want our children to understand that mistakes are a valuable part of learning and growth.
By developing resilience, pupils learn to persevere when faced with challenges, adapt to new situations and build confidence in their ability to overcome obstacles. We encourage children to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks and keep striving towards their goals, knowing that success often comes through determination and persistence.
Curiosity lies at the heart of learning. We want our pupils to ask questions, explore new ideas and develop their own voice.
Through our curriculum, we encourage children to think deeply about the world around them, make connections in their learning and develop a lifelong love of discovery.
Curiosity is equally important for our staff. We foster a culture where adults continually seek new ways to remove barriers to learning, explore innovative approaches and refine their practice. By remaining curious ourselves, we can provide the very best educational experiences for our children and continue to develop an engaging, inspiring and ambitious curriculum for all.
Together, our vision and values guide every decision we make, helping us to give every child the chance to shine."
