At Steeple Claydon School, learning extends far beyond the National Curriculum. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to discover new interests, develop talents, build confidence and create lasting memories through a programme of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities.
We are proud to offer a varied programme of after-school clubs throughout the year, giving children the chance to explore new skills and interests. Our clubs regularly include activities such as Tag Rugby, Football, Netball, Cooking, Book Club, Arts and Crafts, STEM activities and Forest School, alongside many others.
We aim to ensure that there is something for every child, helping pupils develop teamwork, creativity, resilience and confidence while having fun with their friends.
All children take part in a Forest School unit during the academic year. These sessions provide valuable opportunities for outdoor learning, exploration and discovery. Through Forest School, children develop independence, problem-solving skills, resilience and an appreciation of the natural world, whilst learning in a hands-on and engaging environment.
Physical activity plays an important role in school life and we are committed to providing opportunities for all children to participate in sport.
Throughout the year, every year group has the opportunity to attend a range of sports festivals and competitions. These include football, netball, basketball, tag rugby and multi-skills events, alongside other sporting opportunities offered through local partnerships.
Whether competing against other schools or taking part in participation festivals, children develop teamwork, sportsmanship, determination and confidence while enjoying the benefits of an active lifestyle.
We believe that music has the power to inspire, motivate and bring people together.
We offer instrumental music lessons for children from Key Stage 1 through to Year 6, enabling pupils to develop their musical talents and gain new skills.
Children are also given opportunities to perform throughout the year through concerts, assemblies and school productions. Our annual Talent Show provides a platform for pupils to showcase their unique abilities, celebrate success and build confidence in front of an audience.
As part of our commitment to providing memorable experiences, we take our Key Stage 2 pupils to participate in Young Voices at Wembley Arena. Performing alongside thousands of children from across the country is an unforgettable experience that creates a genuine sense of awe and wonder and inspires a lifelong love of music.
We are also excited to be introducing a Public Speaking Competition, helping children develop confidence, communication skills and the ability to express their ideas effectively.
Educational visits are an important part of our enrichment offer. We provide opportunities for pupils to explore places of historical, geographical, cultural and scientific interest, bringing learning to life beyond the classroom.
Through local visits, residential experiences, museums, theatres, places of worship and outdoor learning opportunities, children develop independence, confidence, curiosity and a deeper understanding of the wider world.
We believe every child should have the opportunity to contribute to school life and develop leadership skills.
Pupils can take on a range of responsibilities including:
Junior Leadership Team
Eco Council
House Captains
Playground Leaders
Digital Leaders
Librarians
Junior Road Safety Officers
These roles help children develop communication, teamwork, decision-making and responsibility while ensuring that pupil voice helps shape our school community.
We regularly welcome visitors into school who enrich children's learning and broaden their horizons. These may include authors, artists, athletes, emergency services, community groups and other specialists.
By hearing first-hand experiences and learning from experts, children are inspired to think ambitiously about their futures and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our extra-curricular programme forms an important part of our wider commitment to personal development. We want every child to leave Steeple Claydon as a confident, kind, resilient and responsible individual who is ready for the next stage of their education and life beyond school.
Through clubs, sport, music, leadership opportunities, educational visits, performances and enrichment experiences, we encourage children to challenge themselves, discover new passions and develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to flourish both now and in the future.
At Steeple Claydon School, we are committed to giving every child the chance to shine.
